Time is allocated at the weekly meetings in the outposts or in individual teams for in-depth and age-appropriate preparation for life at camp and for hiking adventures. The main areas of training are starting fires, tying knots, camp survival techniques, map-reading and compass skills, first-aid, and the safe use of tools. In keeping with the Royal Rangers precepts, time is spent instilling an attitude of respect for nature and the environment at the most basic level and, as demands increase, disciplined conduct is regarded as the guiding principle at all times. This provides the Rangers with a fundamental framework for a constant stream of exciting new experiences and adventures. .
